Big pre-war that got renovated in the early 80's. From the stories I hear, the building was originally filed with artists, musicians, and dancers, and following them the Caribbean families. There are still lots of artsy types (a few home made recording studios, writers, poets, dancers) and a great deal of the families have moved on to actual houses, and now there's the influx of gentrification slowly but surely for the past 10 years. For the most part, its a great building- super can be slow to deal with issues, but it always eventually gets done. Neighbors are all cool people, everyone really nice, and the kids are all respectful. The parties can get loud (thin walls) and don't even THINK about sleeping on Labor Day, the traffic on the Parkway never goes away, but the spaces are really awesome in the larger units. |
